Our Standards and Practices

Eden Hill Conservancy strives to carry out its mission in accordance with the highest standards and practices of the land trust community.  To exchange information, engage in continuous learning, and benchmark our practices, we participate in both national and regional land trust organizations.

We are members of the Land Trust Alliance, a national, non-profit organization formed in 1982 that is dedicated to the effectiveness and sustainability of the nation’s land trusts.  (Visit www.landtrustalliance.org for further information.)  We also are members of the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association, a regional organization that helps conservation practitioners improve their effectiveness, builds public understanding, and advocates for better governmental conservation policy.  (Visit www.conserveland.org for further information.)

The Land Trust Alliance publishes standards and practices for land trusts.  These are guidelines for operation of land trusts in accordance with the public interest, drawn from the Alliance’s experience in representing over 1700 land trusts.  In 2006, the Land Trust Alliance established an independent Land Trust Accreditation Commission, a voluntary accreditation program, to help land trusts improve their implementation of standards and practices and provide an assurance of quality for the public.  EHC makes extensive use of Land Trust Alliance standards and practices resources and programs in developing its policies and procedures.

The Pennsylvania Land Trust Association (PALTA), also serves as a resource for benchmarking regional best practices in the community.  PALTA makes sample policies and documents available to its members that EHC uses as a guide in developing its policies and procedures.

We are currently reviewing and updating our standards and practices in preparation for pursuing accreditation through the Land Trust Accreditation Commission.  Please contact us at info@edenhillconservancy.org for more information.
